RE: Recommendation for Council Appointee to
Police Fleet Implementation Working Group
I am happy to announce the Chair's recommendation to appoint Mr. Manuel S. Mattos,
Jr. to the Mayor's Police Fleet Implementation Working Group as an ex-officio member.
Mr. Mattos is a retired officer of the Honolulu Police Department and a community
activist fr~r various causes. Mr. Mattos has been a resident of the Big Island for twelve years and
has been instrumental in our effort to place an air quality monitoring system in the Puna district.
He has also aided in our island's struggle to stop the "ice" epidemic and participated in the
Mayor's "Ice" Summit as a representative of the Pahoa Sacred Hearts Catholic Church. With his
twenty years of experience as a police officer and dedication to improve the lives of the people
of our Big Island community, I believe he will be a valuable asset to this working group.
