Dear Chairman Safarik and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the County of Hawaii Board of
[=thics:
Council District ~ _ Mr. Karl K. Kawahara is a 68-year resident of Hawaii. He is a
retired teacher who worked for the Department of Education from 1993 to 2004. Mr.
Kawahara currently serves as the Vice-Chair for the Big Island Federal Credit Union and
Chairman of the Board of the Church of the Holy Cross. He was a past president of the
Lehua Jaycees, and also previously served on the Board of Ethics. Mr. Kawahara states
that he is a member of the Democratic Party, and if confirmed will serve a term to expire
on December 31.2009.
Council ®istrct 5 Mr. Wayne Joseph is a 57-year resident of Hawaii. He is
employed by the Department of Education as a teacher at Waiakea High School. He
currently is the President of both the Big Island Road Runners Club and the Big Island
International Marathon. He is also an advisor to the Big Island Chess Club and a
volunteer columnist at the Hawaii Tribune Herald. Mr. Joseph states that he is not
affiliated with any political party, and if confirmed will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2009.
