Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred
Bill No. 36, relating to naming a County recreational facility, reports as follows:
Bill No. 36, introduced by Council Chair Gary Safarik and transmitted by Patricia Engelhard,
Director of Parks and Recreation, via Communication No. 115, dated February 1 1.2(105.
designates the name "Kahakai Park" for that certain County recreational facility located in
I lawaiian Beaches, Puna, Hawaii, identified by "faK Map Key (3) 1-5-63:01.
'this bill is brought forth pursuant to Chapter 15 ofthe I Iawai'i County ('ode (I~CC). which
establishes the guidelines for naming such facilities. Sectionl5-67(a)(2)(n) provides that any
open area shall be named for its neighborhood, community, region, district or other identifying
geographical location. 'the facility is an open area park, located at the end of Kahakai
Boulevard, in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision, overlooking the seacoast and theretbre the
name is appropriate and is in keeping with the guidelines set forth in Chapter 15, fICC.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bill No. 36, and recommends it pass first reading.
