Re: Pualani Makai Rental Housing Project
Dear Councilpersons Piiago and Hoffman:
I was contacted by Brian Cook last week with an update on our rezoning
application. Mr. Cook indicated that you had requested our presence at the
continuation of the Planning Committee meeting on March 15"'. Unfortunately,
we have other commitments that will prohibit us from attending and for this we
apologize.
After talking with Mr. Cock we held a meeting on haw we want to go forward with
the development and construction of the rental project. It was decided that it will
be in our best interests to structure a joint venture of sorts with Mr. Cook. He
has Gved in Kona for a number of years and knows the community's needs. He
indicated to us that affordable rentals are a top priority. He was the one who
originally proposed that •ae seek approval For a rental housing only project. We,
if rezoning is approved, wilt be sharing the substantial cost of the roadways and
drainage channel improvements with Pua'a Development, LLC., so it makes
sense to us to have Per. Cock on our team.
With this in mind, we have requested that Mr. Ceok represent us at this upcoming
meeting. We have full confidence that he will have ours and the community's
best interests in mind, so we are quite cvmfortahle in Mr. Cook representing us
in this regard.
