Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
In accordance with requirments of Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaii County Charter,
we request Council's approval to receive:
a monetary contribution
to be donated by the Hawaii Police Athletic Federation. The amount of the monetary
contribution is one thousand dollars and no cents ($1,000.00).
The President of the Hawaii Police Athletic Association is Mr. Gregory Hunt. The mailing
address for the Association is Post Office Box 22623, Honolulu, Hawaii 96823.
The contribution will be designated for use by the Department's Drug Abuse Resistance
Education (D.A.R.E.) program. D.A.R.E. is seeking to acquire a portable public address
system for use during parent seminars, youth conferences, summer camps and other extra-
curricular events. Currently, it is necessary for the police department to rent sound systems
to facilitate events.
Your approval in this matter is appreciated.

OUR ANNUAL FUNDRAISING PROJECT HELD AT THE NEAL BLAISDELL CENTER ON
1/31/97, A BASKETBALL GAME BETWEEN NFL FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND HONOLULU
POLICE OFFICERS WAS HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL. THE EVENT WAS PRODUCED BY THE
FOUNDATION FOR ATHLETES SUPPORTING KIDS, ANON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.
$28,000 WAS ADDED TO OUR SCHOLARSHIP TRUST FUND AND WE WERE ALSO ABLE
TO MAKE SUBSTANTIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SISTERS OF NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR
IN MEMORY OF SISTER ROBERTA JULIE DERBY, THE HAWAII COMMWNITY
FOUNDATION, HPD OLDTIMER'S CLUB, THE MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION, AS WELL AS
THE LAW EXPLORERS SCOUTS.
PLEASE ACCEPT THIS CONTRIBUTION TO BE USED AT YOUR DISCRETION. IN THESE
TIGHT BUDGETARY TIMES, FUNDING FOR WORTHWHILE PROJECTS OR CAUSES ARE
NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE!
