Of the 3,9441ot owners on record, only 1,164 have paid their voluntary road dues for 1997 which is 29.5% of the lot owners in the subdivision. This revenue is not adequate to sustain a safe and passable roadway. HACA does not own the roads in Hawaiian Acres, but it does maintain them with voluntary funding. A survey conducted in March 1997 (see attached) showed that there were 843 driveways in Hawaiian Acres. Many of these have house sites or agricultural businesses on these (i.e. households). Other individuals who contribute road fees are non-resident lot owners who don not live in Hawaiian Acres but do pay the voluntary road dues. I would like to see this roadway completed as soon as possible for health and safety reasons. Children playing on the roadways and school bus access aze immediate issues. TREASURER'S REPORT ROAD COMMITTEE REPORT by Jim Rhodes Aloha to All: We are approaching the end of our 1996 - 1997 We have had good weather since my last report. The previous work done this year has stood up well. fiscal year and the budget looks fairly good. As Spring rapidly melds into Summer, my term as Presidern of Hawaiian Acres Community Association nears completion. 1996-1997 was a truly chaQenging, hectic, and eventful year with several monumental projects ' started and on thew way to completion. Before I continue, I must stop to congratulate this year's HACA Council for their hard work and diligent efforts without which many or most of these projects would be only a dream. Unfortunately, some of you fell through the cracks and the attrition rate was really high near the end, but we did achieve some stellar accomplishments (besides Hale-Bopp}. Many mahalos and special kudos to the following HACA residents for their work: © Sheldon Lehman and the Volurrteer Fire Department for responding to more than their fair share of fires this year (several on council meeting days). They also worked with Lloyd Narhnatsu and the County Fire depamnent to , obtain Fire house funding and tested "drug free". © Bill McClellan and Danny Woolverton for the endless hours of supervision for the parking lot project. © Jerome Siebenrock, Ken Cutting and the rest of the Community Watch for keeping us safer and well informed. © Kate Schuerch and Mary Guebie, and Cathy Segovia Dumond for their computer expertise and new equipment acquisition. © Kate Schuerch, Cathy McPhee and others for this glorious Newsletter © Jim Rhodes and the road committee for the great "Roads" © Karen Blue for chairing the dreaded "Bylaws" committee, © Russ Brauher, Bob and Julie Jacobson, Bill, Rhonda Nicholson and Karen Blue for planning and the survey ' results! © Caro! HACA projects for the 1996-1997 year included working on the Community Association's parking lot and all the prep work before pacing. Existing roads were maintained and other cross-Acres roadways were firrally opened, Sections of 1 Road were widened and a major effort was needed to keep 8 Road together until the County takes i1 This may not be until late summer 1997, so be cazeful. Current County Council projects include the subdivision code revisions, and the Puna Community Council has hac' some interesting forums and has presented recommendations to the State Legislature.
