Dear Councilman Hoftlnann,
1 am writing to support you in urging your colleagues in Hawaii County Councl to
follow the wise Council'members of Maui and Kauai Counties to require an
Envvonmcntal Impact Statement for H5F (Hawaii SuperFerry) prior fo bringing their
operations to our neighborhood harbors, specifically Kawaihae Hazbor on the Big Island.
It is my belief that the HSF operatiolJ will have significant impact on the land and marine
envitnttmeats in the areas used by tFie ferry and adjacent to their proposed
parking/loading areas. In addition, their proposed cooperation with the Stryker Brigade
wiU necessitate a much greater impact environmentally than HSF initially suggested in
their promotional literature,
Hawaii County is carninually Gviag in the mess aeatcd by lack of thorough planning and
infirtstrocture. Allowing the HSF project to go forward in West llawaii without platning
that is available for public review is unconscionable in fight of our ongoing development
and ttafl'ic problems. A proper E1S by Hawaii SuperFetry would demonstrate to our
community that they truly want to be "part of the sohrtion°, not just another problem to
be dealt with after another man-made disaster is created.
Thank you for your concern for the long-term care for the `sins of Hawaii Island.
