Dear Councilman. Hoffman,
When I first heard about plans for Superferry service to the
islands, I was excited that there would be an alternative to
interisland air travel, one that would permit personal vehicles
and more affordable travel and shopping in the islands.
i
My excitement has turned to caution, however, as ~ have
learned about the possible impacts of the ferries, including
traffic, infrastructure improvements, changes to Kawaihae
Harbor and its activities, and affects on sealife.
It is unacceptable to me that this project would be permitted
without an Environmental Impact Statement. I am requesting
your assistance in obtaining a Couneil mandate for the EIS.
I want the Superferry to succeed without detrimental impacts
on ttze quality of life in Hawaii and I believe this action is
necessary to insure• that success.
