Dear Chairman Arakaki:
Attached is a Bill for An Ordinance which proposes to amend the
composition of the Veterans Advisory Committee.
Out of this 15-member committee, eleven specific organizations
are mandated to be represented. In June, 1997, the
representative from the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA)
resigned and stated that because their membership is composed
of a few members scattered around the island, it does not
justify representation on this committee. As such, it would
not object to being removed as a mandated member.
This bill would remove FRA as a required member and proposes to
include the HAWAII ISLAND VETERANS MEMORIAL, INC., in its place.
This new entity, formed in May, 1997, and composed of
12 members, is made up of women and men veterans representing
all of the military branches.
We request the Council's expeditious review and approval of
this bill.
