Your Committee on Environmental Management, to which was referred Resolution No. 55-05,
reports as follows:
Resolution No. 55-05, transmitted by Councilmember Pete Hoffmann, via Communication
No. 133, dated March 1, 2005, requests a study of the feasibility of establishing a pilot project
curbside recycling and trash pick-up program in Waikoloa Village.
Che Update to the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan identifies recycling as a major tool
to help the County reach its goal to divert 45 percent of all solid waste from landfills.
Councilmember Hoffmann commented that curbside recycling will allow the County to reach
that goal He also commented that, if established, the recycling program would serve as a guide
and template for the whole County.
Your Committee on Environmental Management is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 55-05, and recommends its adoption.
