Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 151, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 151, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated March 3, 2005, requests the
approval of the appointments of Mr. David A. Drury and Mr. Joel Gimpel to the County of
Hawai' i Board of Appeals.
Joel Gimpel is a nine-year resident of Hawaii. He resides in council district 8, and is a retired
attorney. Mr. Gimpel has served on a variety of boards and commissions, including the cost of
government commission, board of ethics, and the Kona traffic safety committee. Not affiliated
with any political party, if confirmed, he will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2009.
At today's hearing Your Committee heard testimony in support of Mr. Gimpel's appointment
from Lunakanawai Hauanio, Janice Palma-Glennie and J. Curtis Tyler, Ill. Several
councilmembers commended his record of service on other boards and commissions.
Because David A. Drury was not in attendance, consideration of that was postponed until the
next planning committee meeting.
Your Committee on Planning recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Joel Gimpel
to the County of Hawaii Board of Appeals for a term ending December 31, 2009.
