No. 153 PLACE: Council Chambers TIME: 1:30 p.m. Council Chair Safarik and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Conmmunication No. 153, reports as follows: Communication No. 153, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated March 3. 2005, requests the approval of the appointments of Ms. Millie Kim, Ms. Paula Helfrich, and Mr. Riley Smith to the County of Hawaii Water Board. Ms. Kim is a lifelong resident of Hawaii and is currently a public affairs/community development consultant. She also serves on the state foundation on culture and the arts. She is a past director of the County of Hawaii department of research and development Ms. Kim is not affiliated wide any political party. If confirmed, she will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2009, replacing Mr. Earl Nakashima. whose term expired on December 31, 2004. Ms. Helfrich is a 35-year resident of Hawaii and currently serves as the chief executive officer for the f?conomic Development Alliance of Hawaii. She has previously served on the state foundation on culture and the arts. A member of the Democratic party, if confirmed, she will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2002 replacing Mr. Leonard Tanaka, who has resigned. Mc Smith is a 50-year resident of Hawaii and currently works for Parker Ranch. He also serves as president of the Waimea Community Association and as director of the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce. In the past he served as deputy director of the County of Hawaii department of public works, and as president of the North Hawaii Rotary Club. Not affiliated with any political parh~, if confirmed, he will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2009, replacing Ms. Pamela Hoes, whose term expired on December 31, ?004. Your Committee on Planning recommends confirmation of the appointments of Millie Kim, Paula Helfrich, and Riley Smith to the County of Hawaii Water Board.
