Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 60-05, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 60-05, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 55 by Director of Finance
William Takaba, via Communication No. 158, dated March 2, 2005, authorizes the office of the
Mayor to enter into an agreement with the United States of America for the assistance to
firefighters grant.
The department of homeland security and the office for domestic preparedness, through its fiscal
year 2004 assistance to firefighters grant program, has authorized $301,000 to the Hawaii
County fire department.
The Federal government's share along with the County's share of $129,000 will be used to
purchase a mobile live the training unit. The County's share will be provided through funds
from unfilled positions. This unit, commonly referred to as a "burn trailer," will be used in basic
firefighter training for both department personnel and volunteer firefighters.
Pursuant to section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County departments nmst obtain the consent
of the council to enter into agreements with the Federal or state governments.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 60-OS
and recommends its adoption.
