Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred E3ill No. 55, reports as follows:
Bill No. 55, transmitted jointly with Resolution No. 60-OS by Director of Finance William Takaba, via
Communication No. 158, dated March 2, 2005, amends Ordinance No. 04-74, as amended, the operating
budget, ending .lure 30, 2005. The amendment is as follows:

The U.S. department of homeland security and the office for domestic preparedness' fiscal year 2004
assistance to firefighters program has authorized an assistance to firefighters grant to the Hawaii
County's fire department. "these grant funds will be used to purchase a mobile live fire training unit.
This wait commonly referred to as a "burn trailer" will be used in basic firefighter training for both
department personnel and volunteer firefighters.
The County's share of $129,000 will be provided through funds from unfilled positions.
Pursuant to section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, and section 13-13(b), Hawaii County Charter, the
Mayor is hereby authorized to apply for, receive and expend the funds for the assistance to firefighters
grant.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 55 and recommends it
pass first reading.
