Our Pahala Plantation Cottages are a popular visitor destination for local people
from Oahu, the mainland, Kona, Waimea and even Hilo.
People come and stay here because Ka u reminds them of old Hawaii, with its
quaint well planned villages where you can walk everywhere and meet
friendly people. These villages of Pahala and Na'alehu are also close to the Ka'u
coast, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park.
Visitors see that we have a special, unspoiled coastline. It is largely uninhabited.
It is vast and rugged. It is the home to the native and
endangered hawksbill turtle and protected green sea turtle. It has fields of
archaeological sites that are well preserved.
National Geographic Traveler recently did a story on our area called Pahala: The
Last Aloha Region.
Ka' u is without the drop-dead gorgeous waterfalls and white sandy beaches of
Oahu, Maui and Kauai. We only have our own special beauty,a sense of
space, which is lost in many other Hawaiian places.
Please preserve this sense of space along our Ka u coast, by passing the
Honu~apo acquisition bill. We need this coast for
our peace of mind, our place of recreation, and to maintain the beauty of what we
have -this stretch of shoreline as far as the eye can see.
