Dear Chair and Members:
Please consider this suppott, with some reservations, for Bill 53 draft 2 concerning
an appropriation for monies to participate in the purchase of certain private
lands at Honuapo
My reservations deal with a pending lawsuit by the lot owners of Hokulia against
the County of Hawaii. It is my belief that even the threat of a lawsuit wlll have, if
it has not had already, a negative impact on the Cotmty's bond rating which will
make the appropriation request difficult to complete.
One the plus side the Legacy Lands bill is moving through the legislature with
Hokulia included.
As a rnsident of Ka' u and a Representative for the district please know that I
continue to support the preservation of sensitive and important land areas in
South Kona and Ka' u. Hopefully HCR 5 HD 1 that is proceeding through the
legislature will help us identify these important lands and give us
recommendations for their preservation.
Please be advised that this testimony does not reflect the position of the House of
Representatives.

schedule on the date of the meeting.
