Kirii~'~ County Clerk RE: Appointment of the Deputy County Clerk William E. Smith In accordance with Section 3-6(b)(4), I am respectfully submitting for your approval the appointment of William E. Smith to the position of Deputy County Clerk effective May 1, 2005. William (Bill) Edward Smith has been a deputy prosecuting attorney with the County of Hawaii's Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for about fourteen years. He sat as a per diem judge in district and family court on Oahu for eight years. Prior to that he was, among other things, a partner in the law firm of Harris & Smith, attorney at the legal aid society of Hawaii, a legislative specialist for the Hawaii Statc Teacher's Association, and a legislative aid to Senator David McClung. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and the matter placed onto the next Council agenda for review.
