I think it s good idea with some concerns. Affordable housing is badly needed in Kona. I know of so many businesses that can't find employees and certainly part of the reason is there's no place for them to live. A central location seems reasonable and a shopping center there seems like it would reduce some congestion around Palani Road intersection. Perhaps some residents in the area could walk to the store reducing cars on the road. My other thoughts are: - There should be a SAFE CROSSWALK for kids and adults from Pulani Estates to cross Kuakini Hwy to get to the Shopping Center, maybe even a pedestrian bridge above. - That the affordable apartments are not sucked up by retirees from the mainland. Maybe there could be a stipulation that first renters need to be Hawaii residents for a year to be able to rent. Young people and young families should get preference. - Some way to control that Affordable apartments don't end up with 10 family members living in a 2 BDRM apartment - There should be a playground, pavilion and restrooms for the public to use.
