Subject: Amendments to Chapter 5, Building Code
During the April 2, 2005, meeting of the Hawaii County Council Committee on Public
Works & Intergovernmental Relations, Comm. 187: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
CHAPTER 5, ARTICLE 1 OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE, RELATING TO
BUILDING (BILL 71) was postponed until May 3, 2005.
During the public testimony portion of the meeting, several people spoke against the
mandatory treatment for ground termites.
The Department of Public Works contacted Dr. Julian Yates, Specialist, Plant and
Environmental Protection Sciences at the University of Hawaii at Manua. Dr. Yates has
agreed to do a 20-30 minute informational Power Point presentation on termites for the
May 3, 2005, Committee meeting.
