Dear Ms. Kiyosaki:
Congratulations on the excellent shoulder paving that has been implemented by the
Department of Public Works on both sides of Kalanianaole Avenue. This work has
made this route much safer and amactive to bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists.
Please extend our appreciation and thanks to your staff on behalf of bicyclists and
pedestrians who use this route.
Our committee suggests that it is now appropriate for the Public Works Department
to send a resolution to the County Council requesting that Kalanianaole Avenue be
designated as a "Bicycle Route". Such designation conforms to recorrtmendations of
the 1994 "Bike Plan Hawaii" (please see Hilo map Appendix 1-5, and also Appendix
2-6 page 2 item 1), and the 1979 County of Hawaii "Bikeway Plan" (please see page
50)- Thank you.
