Re: Bills 78 and 79
Hearing: Tuesday, April 19 at 9:30 -Finance Committee
Dear Members of the Hawaii County Council,
We believe that there is a general consensus both in the public and in the County Planning Department that rapid
growth in population and development is threatening to change the character of our island. That change is taking
place in both the ecosystems of the island and in the nature of human settlements.
An island that has the rainfall, soil and climate to grow practically anything, open spaces accessible to the public
where the experience of wilderness is still possible, a rural culture that values the land these and other beautiful
aspects of our island are being destroyed by the bull dozer, the subdivisions, the gated communities, the resort
hotels, and the traffic piling up.
Bills 78 and 79 offer an opportunity to at least take some of the most valuable parts of what is left out of harm's
way.
We urge you to support these bills and begin a process of truly protecting what many of us value most about our
home.
Thank you for considering our views.
Aloha,
Lanny Sinkin and Mary Rose Sinkin
