Re.: Rill 78 and 79 to establish a land protection fund
Dear Councilmember Isbel,
l have recently learned that two bills, numbers 78 and 79 will be considered by Che
County Council this 'T'uesday. 1 am writing in support of these two bills because the Count ~ ha:.
opportunities to acquire important lands for protection that other agencies camlot or will not.
Apparently both Maui and Kauai have already established such funds for acquiring and
protecting county lands from development.
Both local people and tourists benefit from protecting open spaces. Tourists wm~• m
llawaii to pnmarily see the natural beauty of ITawaii, not private hotel grounds and exclu>~~ c
subdivisions. Our natural landscapes are a big part of the "engine'" that dri~'es our tourisn.-i>ase~.
economy.
I hope that you and other member s of the council will pass these two bills to protect open
spaces on Yhc Big Island before they are lost, as many have already on other islands.
Aloha,
