Bio
S. Sanae Tokumura, ACFRE, APR
Ms. Tokumura is fund raising and public relations consultant, Pounder and
president of the Honolulu firm Solid Concepts, Inc. An active advocate for
responsible fund raising and public relations practice in America, she is known
especially for conducting and completing groundbreaking capital campaigns in
Hawaii.
Big Island projects include:
1. Hospice of Hilo facility
2. Sangha Hall facility
3. Hilo Medical Center Emergency Department improvements/expansion
4. Hawaii's first Veteran's Home (to be built on Hilo Medical Center campus in
place of "green monster" old hospital)
With nearly 25 years experience in both fund raising and public relations, Sanae is
nationally advance-certified (ACFRE) in fund raising, the highest level of
professional distinction, through the Association of Fundraising Professionals
(AFP). Out of a field of over 26,000 professionals, she was the 41st ACFRE in the
United States and is the only ACFRE in Hawaii. She is also nationally accredited
(APR) in the practice of public relations through the Public Relations Society of
America (PRSA).
Sanae serves as instructor for AFP's First and Survey Courses, speaks at local and
international conferences on fundraising and authored the Major Giving chapter
of the curriculum for small non-profits for The Fund Raising School at The
Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. Author of numerous articles on
fundraising, her most recent was a monograph entitled Fundraising Mores in
Diverse Communities: the role of ethnicity and culture for New Directions in
Philanthropic Fundraising, an international journal for consultants and senior
professionals.
She serves on the Association of Fundraising Professionals Foundation for
Philanthropy board and the Advanced Certified Fund Raising Executive board
both based in Arlington, VA. She is originally from Kauai.
