HISMEC strives to preserve all the good things about native Hawaiian tropical rainforests, primarily by combating invasive species such as Miconia and Coqui frogs in rural agricultural communities of upper Puna. HISMEC also strongly supports and encourages the preservation of in-tact native Hawaiian forests and other lands with biological, cultural or historical value across the island. For this reason, HISMEC applauds the County Council members for considering and supporting both bill No. 78 & No. 79. Approving these bills and providing the necessary funding will demonstrate an admirable commitment by this administration to the people of Hawaii County now and well into the future. I urge you Mayor Kim and Council members, to see these bills all the way through the approval process.
