SUBJECT: CONFIRMATION OF WILLIAM `BILL' SMITH AS LEGISLATIVE AUDITOR
Dear Mr. Higa and Members of the County Council:
I am writing in support of Mr. William `Bill' Smith as the County of Hawaii's Legislative
Auditor. I have known Bill for nearly ten years in my position as a school social worker for the
Department of Education. Throughout the years, Bill has been a staunch supporter of our
schools and of our efforts to keep students in school and out of trouble.
Bill has the personal qualities which would make him an asset to your organization. He is very
intelligent, meticulous, and conscientious, and always knows the details of each case that he
covers. In addition, Bill is fair, compassionate, and has a great sense of humor. In Family Court
proceedings, Bill iS very knowledgeable of the laws pertaining to this specific court. He also
requests current information on our Department of Education programs and policies, in order to
better understand our complex (and many times confusing) system.
I ask that you seriously consider appointing Bill as your legislative auditor. Although his
presence will be missed in Family Court, I know that Bill will be contributing to a greater cause
