Your Conuniuee on Planning. to which was referred Bill No. 64 reports as follows:
Bill No. 6d. tranamilled by Mayor Harry Kim, via Communication No. 176, dated March I5.
2005, amends Chaplcr 25 (Zoning Code), Section 25-5-152(a) of the Flawai'i County Code_ by
allowing the expansion of an existing commercial excavation operation within the General
Indusu~ial (MG) district, provided that plan approval is secured from the Planning Director, and
Section 25-5-15216) by allowing the establishment of new commercial excavation operations
within the MG district provided that a Use Permit is obtained from the Planning Commission.
While "conunercisl excavation" is currently defined in the code, it is not presaitly listed as a
permitted use in any of the zoning district.
Planning Director Chris Yucn testified that these are quarry operations and this bill would allow
the yuarrics to be r.xpandcd.
I~hc I Iawai'i County Charter requires Planning Commission review of amendments to the
planning ordinances. The Planning Commission, at its February 1 R. 2005 public hearing.
considered Bill No. 64 and voted to forward a favorable recommendation on the matter.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 64 and
recommends it pass first reading.
