As a past Board Member for the Hawaii Conservation Council, I would like to urge the council to pass
Bi1178. Hawaii is losing too much land to development which tries to lock it up so Chat all of us can't
enjoy these special places. Bill 78 creates a window of opportunity which can protect, save
and conserve our precious spaces. I urge you to pass this bill for our future generations, for our cultural
and heritage and economically (tourist like these places to stay as they are). I hope the Council
takes this bold step into the future by creating this fund. Lastly polls taken last year showed that 70-
80% ofthose surveyed wanted such a fund to purchase and save our lands. You councilors say you
want to Follow 'the peoples will'. Well the people have spoken.

I would like to urge all of you who care for the Big Island to contact your County Council member and
urge them to pass Bi1178. Bill 78 would create a fund (taking 2% of real property tax revenue) to
protect our economy and our beautiful coastal lands, forests, and historic Hawaiian sites for our children
and grandchildren, by purchasing these important lands and heritage. In polls conducted last year 70-
80% ofHawaii Gounty residents favor the creation of such a fund to protect our precious lands. The bill
passed its tirst hearing and now it needs to pass the full Council on May 4 and for the final reading on
May 18th. So until that time please contact your Council member to urge them to pass this very
important bill. You can call your Council members at 808-961-8225 to voice your support and then send a positive letter
or email directly to to the Hawaii County Council encouraging sunport for Bi//78 Or, you can Fax it! 808-961-8912 (Include Bill #78 in
subject line).
