I am writing in favor of the developments that is planned to be built makai of
Queen Kahumannu Hwyjust across 11rom the existing Pualani Aevelopment. It is very
uncharacteristic of me to support development, but I take exception to my normal pint of
view because 1 believe this developmlent includes the specifications that the citizens have
been promoting for many yeazs. Thee accommodations to the will o f the people
include:
• A mauka-makai connector that will make access from Alii Drive east to
Queen K.
• A small neighborhood shopping center that will provide access to services
without the residents of thle subdivision having to use Queen K highway at ail.
• Affordable housing that is the most sought after relief for the average ciirzen
• A location that is already to an urban corridor rather than exclusively miles
from shopping and servicds that result in spot zoning.
People are moving to Kona. I do prof want to see more traffic and certainly woc.!d hke
Kona to remain as it is, but that in nod feasible. If we do not allow people to move
areas that azc built with community it~ mind, we will succeed in encouraging half hszazd
development with more dire consequences.
1 appreciate your involvement, your energetic attempts so far to improve the
conditions and poor infrastructure on ithe west side of the island. I hope you give t}us
proposed project a positive approval 9o tbat we control development rather than let`ing
development control our community life.
