Re: Bill 103 -Naming the Playground at Lincoln Park in honor of Dr. Ruth E. Oda
We the undersigned would like to voice our support for Bill 103, naming the playground area at
Lincoln Park in honor of Dr. Ruth E. Oda.
We believe that naming the playground area at Lincoln Park after Dr. Oda is particularly " -
appropriate as her office was located right next to the park for decades. During her many years
dedicated to her pediatric practice, she treated generation after generation of the children in our
community. Not only was Dr. Oda knowledgeable as a pediatrician, she was sought after
statewide as an excellent diagnostician and consultant. And one of the most redeeming
characteristics was her total compassion for her patients as well as the parents of the youngsters.
Anyone of who was a patient or had our children and grandchildren treated by her can recall her
calming effect of singing children's nursery rhymes during examinations.
After spending more than a full day at her practice, she would visit with her "children" at the
hospital, then go home to read and research till the wee hours of the morning to keep abreast of
medical updates. In addition, Dr. Oda still found the time to volunteer thousands of hours of her
time to help a number of organizations in our County. She was truly an inspiration and role
model for our youth and her impact on our community will continue to reap positive outcomes.
