Dear Council Members,
I have no objection to Bills 29 and 31 but I do have a problem with Bills 30 and 32.
I live in the old neighborhood of Alii Kai which sits just below and to the south of
this project. My roadway, Royal Poinciana Drive, serves as a MAJOR
collector/connector for cars traveling between Alii Drive and Kuakini Highway.
Whatever development is placed on these properties WILL AFFECT US BIG TIME.
We already have tons of traffic generated from all of the condos that were built in
the last 6 years along Alii Drive.
So here are some questions and comments that I would like you to think about
especially as this developer throws more CARROTS at you.
1) It was my understanding that when Mr. Carr developed Kahakai Estates, HE
GAVE 3 ACRES TO KAHAKAI ELEMENTARY. Did any of you check with DOE to see if
this is still so? Because if it is, then
why are you asking for more land for a school?
2) According to the newspaper, some of you are intent on reserving land for a
school. What kind of school? How large? Did you know that, SCHOOLS ARE MAJOR
TRAFFIC GENERATORS?
3) Before you even plan for a school YOU NEED TO REQUIRE A NEW TRAFFIC
STUDY so that neighborhoods like mine DON'T GET SCREWED BY MORE TRAFFIC
IN THE PROCESS.
4) Before you even plan for a school, YOU NEED TO OPEN UP THE ROADWAY
THRU KAHAKAI ESTATES SO THAT WE ALL SHOULDER THE TRAFFIC LOAD THAT
THIS DEVELOPMENT WILL BRING.
5) It is UNFAIR OF YOU TO KEEP DUMPING MORE TRAFFIC ON ROYAL
POINCIANA DRIVE ONLY and exempt the rich neighborhoods like Kahakai Estates
from shouldering some of the burden. PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THE TRAFFIC BURDEN
IN AL.L NEIGHBORHOODS SO THAT WE ALL SHARE and STO_ P GIV_ ING
PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT TO KAHAKAI ESTATES!!
6) Why aren't you staying focused on providing LOW INCOME HOUSING as well
as AFFORDABLE HOUSING? Don't we have a HOUSING CRISES for our low-income
wage earners who must commute all the way in from OCEAN VIEW??? Ina it'on

to rental apartments, MAKE SUFFOLK and PUA'A BUILD BOTH AFFORDABLE AND
LOW INCOME HOMES.
7) I actually hate the idea of rental apartments especially when they are only
going to stay affordable for 20 short years. YOU REALLY NEED TO REQUIRE THAT
SUFFOLK KEEP THE APARTMENTS AFFORDABLE FOREVER!!!!! What kind of
research did you do into the future to think that we won't need affordable
rentals after 20 years????
8) STOP letting this developer do the planning for you and QUIT making deals
with them.
9) I have no problem with the commercial building SO LONG AS IT STAYS SMALL
AND SERVES THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY AND NOT THE COMMUTER
TRAFFIC. 45,000 square feet per store IS TOO LARGE!!!! GEEZ!
WE NEED HOUSING FOR OUR LOW INCOME EARNERS AND A LARGE (not passive)
ACTIVE PARK AND GYM for the rest of the surrounding community to enjoy. WE
ARE GOING TO BE SLAMMED WITH THIS DEVELOPER'S TRAFFIC no matter how
you plan it so WE DESERVE SOME RELIEF IN THE FORM OF A PARK AND GYM on
this parcel.
