RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE KONA TRA FIC SAFETY COMMITTEE AND ITS EFFORTS FOR THE
IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT OF MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY BETWEEN MILE MARKERS l 1 AND 28
VVi~EREAS, Mamalahoa Highway, State Hi way 190, is the most direct and heavily traveled route between
Kailua-Kona and Waimea-Hilo; and
3~'HEREAS, the portion of highway between mile markers 11 and 28 is narrow, in some places without
shoulders, bounded by lava rock outcrops, sharp drop- ffs, and lacks appropriate sight lines and barriers to insure the
safety of motorists; and
~'~HEREAS, the members of the community ho experience this road have presented a list of
recommendations to Governor Linda. Lingle and the S to Department of Transportation for improving this section of
the Mamalahoa Highway, State Route 190; and
W1I~El[~EAS, Mamalahoa Highway between ile markers 11 and 28 is a road of major importance to the
citizens and visitors to Hawaii and in its current cond ion it is a dangerous and inferior road; and
