A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO ENTER INTO MULTI-YEAR
CONTRACTS FOR ELECTRONIC LEGAL RESEARCH FOR THE OFFICE OF THE
CORPORATION COUNSEL FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2005-2006 THROUGH FISCAL YEAR
2007-2008.
WHEREAS, Section 10-11 of the Hawaii County Charter requires that any contract, lease
or other obligation requiring payment of funds from the appropriations of a later fiscal year or
more than one fiscal year be approved by resolution; and
WHEREAS, the County wishes to enter into multi-year contracts (three years) with
electronic legal research providers for the Office of the Corporation Counsel; and
WHEREAS, the Office of the Corporation Counsel has been able to negotiate favorable
rates for multi-year contracts which has resulted in further savings to the County; and
WHEREAS, this electronic researching capability has been used to assist all County
departments, is shared with the Council staff, and is a requirement in today's legal environment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
authorizes the Mayor to enter into three (3) year contracts to provide electronic legal research
services for the Office of the Corporation Counsel.

to (1) the Honorable Harry Kim, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; (2) William Takaba, Director of
Finance; and (3) Gerald Takase, Assistant Corporation Counsel.
