Aloha, Chairman Higa and Council members!!!
A number of us have been involved over the years in attempting to get the County to acquire
Wai'aha/Honl's and I am pleased to support Bill 116.
So, what are we buying for 3.1 million?
A beach that is larger than the public beach in front of the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. The
attached figure shows both beaches in June of 1998 at low tide.
Thanks go to kupuna, photographers and scientists who's testimony helped require a new shoreline
survey before Sobay's tour story condo could be built.
So how much beach do we have to enjoy?
Fortunately, the legal shoreline (yearly high wave wash usually at high tide) is much less important to
beach users than to developers planning to build condos or homes. Throughout most of the year, users
will enjoy Wai'aha/Honl's just like they enjoy Kahalu'u and La'aloa (Magic Sands).
This is a great opportunity I'm proud to support Bill 1 16 and I urge you to do so, also.
