THIS SHOULD BE THE LAST COMMUNITY INPUT MEETING!
I feel we need to get back to the basic bill and follow through on the items covered. This addresses dog
problems only! Let's leave it at that and get it done. Cats, number of dogs per household, fighting cocks,
breeders etc. should be addressed at another time. Every time legislation on dog control comes up the
cock fighters and dog owners bring up cats. One thing at a time please! Let's finish this.
The spay-Neuter program is essential as well as trying to secure monies from the fines. Both of these
items and other concerns can be addressed and brought forward later. Do not hold up the current
legislation! WE HAVE TALKED AND DISCUSSED ENOUGH
I feel Mr. Higa, Mr. Jacobson and Ms. Morgan can complete this quickly without further input. If more
input is needed call Ami Anderson at the Maui Humane Society. The only other public statements should
be when this bill comes before the Council! Enough is Enough!!
BOTTOM LINE - People need to be responsible.
Each person makes the decision as to how many dogs to own and sometimes that's an expensive choice
and it is their choice not the communities.
Suggestions:
Tags are necessary on dogs so that they are easily identified by the community and can be quickly
returned to the owner without ending up in the shelter.
Neutered dogs $15.00 license
Chipped and neutered dogs $10.00 license
All unneutered dogs $25.00 license
These are the dogs causing the most trouble and producing unwanted litters.
Neutering a dog does not diminish his hunting capacity.
There should NOT be a lifetime license. Just because you have to get a safety check on your car each year
doesn't mean you get a free license for driving or automobile plates.
Under penalities a statement should read, MINIMUM MANDATORY FINE OF $75.00. Maui has that in its
code and thus the Judge has no recourse.
There should be no special consideration for hunters because they keep a lot of dogs. You don't NEED 20
dogs to hunt with! I come from a farming and ranching background and my family, neighbor's etc. would
sometimes take 2 or 3 dogs out hunting and sometimes none. Minnesota has far more game animals than
we have here. A pack of dogs are not necessary, only a choice!
Let's get this done!!! Comm. No. Z.. /
