A resident of the Keaau Mutual Self-Help Subdivision requests that the speed limit be reduced from the current 25 mph. A speed study was conducted and we conclude 20 mph is appropriate for all roadways within this subdivision. The Puna Police Department has been informed and they support this proposal. We request [he Hawaii County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10 Section 24-254, Schedule 12 (20 mile per hour limit) under (g) Puna be amended as described in the attached drafr for an ordinance. A location map is attached. We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24 (TRAFFIC SCHEDULE), OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO TRAFFIC REGULATIONS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: SECTION 1. Chapter 24, article 10, division 1, section 24-254, schedule 2 (20 mile per hour limit), subsection(g) Puna, of the Hawaii County Code (1995 edition), is amended by adding the following to be appropriately numbered and to read as follows: • Ha'a Street. • J-Ia'a Place. Q Kaiewe Place. SECTION 2. New material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the underscoring need not be included. SECTION 3. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof to any person or circumstances, is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end, the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
