Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 144-05, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 144-05, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication
No. 376, dated July 21, 2005, authorizes the acceptance of a donation from the Salinas Rural Fire
District.
The Salinas Rural Fire District has graciously donated a Type III Engine Brush Truck, in honor
of former Salinas Firefighter and past Pa`aulio resident, Jack Levitz, to the Hawaii County Fire
Department, Pa`auilo Volunteer Fire Company. The value of this donation is estimated at
$50,000.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to Mr. Steven E. Negro, Fire Chief, Salinas Rural Fire
District, 19900 Portola Drive, Salinas, California 93908, acknowledging this generous donation.
Some members of Your Committee will be working with Fire Chief Darryl Oliveira to put
together a Certificate to thank the Salinas Rural Fire District for this generous donation.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 144-OS
and recommends its adoption.
