Dear Chairman Higa:
m
The purpose of this letter is to notify you that I have been retained by Mrs. Margaret Pahio
and Business Services Hawaii. Mrs. Pahio has requested that 1 contact you before the
I ~ Council begins it's important discussion on Solid Waste Management in our County. Mrs.
Pahio and I share a concern about the nature and scope of the Council's discussion.
k)
As a business owner, I'm sure you can appreciate how important the reputation of a business
can be to its survival and success. Some of the comments about my client's recycling
business arising from the draft report, "Evaluation of The Department of Environmental
Management's Implementation of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan" could be
_ interpreted negatively and impact my client's reputation and standing in the business
; .a, community and community at large. My client and I are very concerned that some of the
allegations and comments have no basis in fact nor are reflected in the factual statements
' - contained in the draft report.
if
` ~ Mrs. Pahio and Business Services Hawaii have been at the forefront of recycling efforts in
r~~_
9, „ this County for a number of years and have always been regarded as a reliable and trusted
resource on recycling in our community. It would be unfortunate if, in this important
discussion, my client's efforts and successes were lost or worse, false accusations allowed to
tf°I { ~ spread. As a resuh, my client and I will be paying veLy close attention to the Council's
"~,'~17~ ` discussion, especially any statements made about my client's operations.
~n ,
~:~1 Finally, if forced to do so, my client intends to defend her integrity and standing in the
,It~t,~, -0,, business community and the community at large. Clearly, she wants to remain an integral
IY { part of the solution to the Solid Waste Management problem in this County and hopes she
l'~ #'u' i>s" can rely on the Council's cooperation.
. h : R,,~y°: ~ ,min.'
'~rys' In that regard, we respectfully request my client be allowed to submit revisions to the draft
' ! report. I have worked with and know Mr. Laurence Capellas and have the highest respect
t~~ and regard for his ability and intelligence. We look forward to submitting our revisions to
r ~i" i ~ ~ Mr. Capellas in the next few weeks. We hope that the Council and Mr. Capellas will accept
' ' our proposed revisions in the spirit of cooperation that they are offered.
