Dear Chairman Higa and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the County of Hawaii Veterans
Advisory Committee:
HAWAII ISLAND VETERANS' MEMORIAL, INC. (HIVM) -Don D. Bennett of Puna is a
15-year resident of Hawaii. He is a member and a Judge Advocate for both the Military
Order of the Purple Heart and the VFW, Post 3830. Mr. Bennett is also the Senior Vice-
Commander of the DAV Chapter 9, and the Chairman of the State Finance Committee of
the DAV. He states that he is not affiliated with any political party and if confirmed will
serve a term to expire on December 31, 2007.
MILITARY ORDER OF THE PURPLE HEART (MOPH) -Richard L. Stevens of South
Kona is a 43-year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Stevens is a teacher at UH-West Hawaii. He
is presently a board member of the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery Development and
Expansion Association, the Kona Soil and Water Conservation District and a past
member of the Kohala Foundation Administration. Mr. Stevens states that he is not
affiliated with any political party and if confirmed will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2010.
