REPORT OF THE
COMMITTEE ON FINANCE
DATE: September 7, 2005 RE: Comm. No. 416/Res. No. 159-05
PLACE: Council Chambers •
TIME: 12:00 p.m.
Council Chair and Members
Hawai`i County Council
Hilo, I-iawai`i 96720
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 159-05, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 159-05, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 144 by Director of Finance
William Takaba, via Communication No. 416, dated August 25, 2005, authorizes the acceptance
of a donation from the Hawai`i Metal Recycling Company.
The Hawai`i Metal Recycling Company has graciously donated $2,400 to the Hawai`i County
Police Department to be used by the Kealakehe Police Station.
Pursuant to Article XiII, Section 13-12, Hawai`i County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to the Hawai`i Metal Recycling Company, 91-056 Hanua
Street, Campbell Industrial Park, Kapolei, Hawai`i 96707, acknowledging this generous
donation.
Assistant Police Chief Ronald Nakamichi explained that earlier this year, "waste material dust"
blew from the Kailua-Kona dumpsite onto vehicles parked at the Kealakehe Police Station. The •
Hawai`i Metal Recycling Company gave the Hawai`i Police Department a check to cover vehicle
damages; however, there were no claims made, so the Police Department returned the check.
Shortly thereafter, Hawai`i Metal Recycling Company sent the donation of$2,400 to the
Kealakehe Police Station to be used as they wish.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 159-05
and recommends its adoption.
