Testimony submitted as letter via fart re: AgTourism Bill No. 148 (329-4786)
Dear Cmmr.ilmrmhers Pilago and Hoffman,
We would 6ka to make you aware of our concerns about Bill No, 148 rutd request that
you vote a ftainst passaEe of this bill. For the past tour years we Curve been actively
involved in frying to prevent the illegal operation of a vacation rental across the street
from ottr home in Nobtnalu subdivision on Alii Drive which is zoned for Ag-S use. Thr
Hawaii County Planning Department has suppotted our efforts to the extern of levying a
fine as wrlf as ri~atinnc to stem this illegal activity. aad has advised the property owner '
that he must go through the special use pclmit process, allowing surrounding neighbors to
Kivc their input, if he plans to run this kind of short term rental business on hls property.
If the Ab tourism Aill No. 148 were to pass and become law, wele concerned that i[
would lxr:o+nc icbal for a vacation rental or bed and breakfast to ba operated without
requiring any kind of special use permit, denying us the protection that we have under
current agriculrnrnl Toning regulntions. Additionally, there are issues regardinu, adeyuurc
infrastructurr.sueh as roads.
"thank you for your attention to our concerns.
Kespectfidh~ yuurti.
