SUBJECT: Proposed Sale of Kilikina Street Property
TMK: (3) 2-3-30:04
Enclosed is a resolution which authorizes the sale of the above property by public auction,
sale or lease by sealed bid, sale or lease by negotiations or exchange. The property
contains an area of 60.59 acres.
The property was acquired by the County of Hawaii in 1917 for the purpose of protecting the
watershed for the City of Hilo. The Department of Water Supply has determined that the
parcel is no longer needed as a watershed and they have no interest in owning or
maintaining the land. The State of Hawaii owns adjacent land and they also have stated that
they have no interest in acquiring the land to maintain as a watershed.
The property requires ongoing maintenance and is not considered to be a feasible site for
future County facilities. Sale of the property or trade for property more appropriate to meet
County needs would best serve the public interest.
