Re: Salary Ordinance
Enclosed is a resolution to amend the Salary Ordinance to increase the hourly pay rate for
the Student Intern, Student Helper I, and Senior Community Services Aid classes of work,
pursuant to Act 240, SLH 2005 that increases the State of Hawai`i's minimum hourly wage.
Effective on January 1, 2006, the minimum hourly pay rate increases from $6.25 to $6.75
and to $7.25 beginning January 1, 2007. This resolution also amends the hourly pay rate for
the Student Helper II class of work.

A. REQUEST:
Submit attached resolution to amend Salary Ordinance No. 05-88.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
Act 240, SLH 2005 amended Section 387-2 Minimum Wages, HRS by increasing the State of Hawai'i's
minimum hourly wage from $6.25 to $6.75 beginning January 1, 2006 and to $7.25 beginning January 1,
2007. Section 7 of Salary Ordinance No. 05-88 lists the Student Intem, Student Helper I, and Senior
Community Services Aid classes of work at the current rate of $6.25.
Therefore, the attached resolution amends Salary Ordinance No. 05-88 by increasing the hourly pay rate for
the Student Intem, Student Helper I, and the Senior Community Services Aid classes from $6.25 to $6.75
beginning January 1, 2006 and to $7.25 beginning January 1, 2007.
In addition, we propose an increase to the hourly pay rate for the Student Helper II class of work from $6.75
to $7.25 beginning January 1, 2006 and to $7.75 beginning January 1, 2007, to maintain the $.50 per hour
difference in pay between the Student Helper I and the Student Helper II classes.
