AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE 4, OF THE HAWAII
COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION), AS AMENDED, RELATING TO MOTOR
VEHICLE DRIVER'S LICENSE FEES
BE IT ORDAINED BY "I'HE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`1:
SECTION I . Purpose. Pursuant to Act 72, Session Laws of Hawaii 2005, a 3-stage graduated
provisional driver licensing program for persons under the age of 13 was established. The purpose of this
measure is to amend Chapter 24, Article 4, Section 24-20, by adding in the new provisional license fee that
takes effect on .lanuary 9, 2006.
SECI~ION 2. Chapter 24, Article 4, Section 24-2Q of [he Hawaii Count} Code 1983 (200 Edition), is
amended to read as follows:
Section 24-20. Motor vehicle driver's permit and license fees.
The following fees arc established for the application and renewal of motor vehicle instruction permits
and driver's licenses:
(a) Application for instruction permit, $10.
(b) Application fur driver's license or out-oGstate transfer:
(I) Application for driver's license (not chargeable if applicant presents evidence of having
paid to Hawaii County the application for instruction permit fee), $l.
(3) Application for out-of=state transfer with a valid out-of--state license, 54.
(c) Reinstatement fee (payable upon the restoration of any license which has been suspended),
520.
(d) Driver's license valid for two years, 5G.
(e) Renewal of driver's license valid for two years, $6.
(f) Driver's license valid for four years, 512.
(g) Renewal of driver's license valid for four years, $12.
(h) Driver's license valid for six years, 518.
(i) Renewal of driver's license valid for six years, $18.
(j) Reactivation fee for each thirty-day period after the ninety-day grace period for renewal
within one year of expiration, 55.
(k) Duplicate license, $5.
(1) Road test fees (categories 1, 2, and 3), $5; (category 4), $50.
(m) Written test Ice, $l.
(n) Oral examination fee, 510.
n Provisional license valid fill ale 19 $5 per year.
SECTION 3. Material to be deleted is bracketed. New material is underscored. In printing this
ordinance, the brackets, bracketed material, and underscoring need not be included.
SECTION 4. [f any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof to any person or
circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the ordinance
which can be given effect ~Nithout the provision or application, and, to the end, the provisions of this
ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect on January 9, 2006.
