AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLF, 4, OF THE HAWAII
COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION), AS AMENDED, RELATING TO MOTOR
VEHICLE DRIVER'S LICENSE FEES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`L•
SECTfON l . Purpose. Pursuant to Act 72, Session Laws of Hawaii 2005, athree-stage
graduated provisional driver licensing program for persons under the age of eighteen was
established. The purpose of this ordinance is to amend chapter 24, article 4, section 24-20,
Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition), by adding in the new provisional license fee that
takes effect on January 9, 2006, pursuant to Act 72.
SECT[ON 2. Chapter 24, article 4, section 24-20, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005
Edition), is amended to read as follows:
"Section 24-20. Motor vehicle driver's permit and license fees.
The following fees are established for the application and renewal of motor vehicle
instruction permits and driver's licenses:
(a) Application for instruction permit, $10.
(b) Application for driver's license orout-of--state transfer:
(1) Application for driver's license (not chargeable if applicant presents evidence of
having paid to Hawaii County the application for instruction permit fee), $1.
(2) Application for out-ot=state transfer with a valid out-of=state license, $4.
(c) Reinstatement fee (payable upon the restoration of any license which has been
suspended), $20.
(d) Driver's license valid for two years, $6.
(e) Renewal of driver's license valid for two years, $6.
(I) Driver's license valid for four years, $12.
(g) Renewal of driver's license valid for four years, $12.
(h) Driver's license valid for six years, $18.
(i) Renewal of driver's license valid for six years, $18.
(j) Reactivation [ee for each thirty-day period after the ninety-day grace period for
renewal within one year of expiration, $5.
(k) Duplicate license, $5.
(I) Road test fees (categories 1, 2, and 3), $5; (category 4).. $50.
(m) Written test fee, $1.
(n) Oral examination fee, $10.
(o) Provisional license valid until age nineteen, $5 per veal;"
SECTION 3. Ncw material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the underscoring
need not be included.
SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof to any person or
circumstance, is held invalid, the invalidity does not affect other provisions or applications of the
ordinance which can he given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end
the provisions of this ordinance arc severable.

SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect on .ianuarv 9, 2006.
