Subject: Voshio Inaba Change of Zone Application (REZ OS-003)
Dear Councilman,
I was unable to attend the meeting at the Waimea Community Center this past Saturday, October
29th and the Planning Commission Meeting on Friday, September 30th at the Hapuna Prince
Hotel, but want to share my concerns about the proposed subdivision.
I have two main concerns:
1. Flooding, flooding, flooding.........as it is right now, Kipahele and Hoohoa streets both flood
during moderate to heavy rains, which in turn, floods Mamalahoa.
2. Traffic, traffic, traffic.........as all of know Waimea has grown by leaps and bounds, and traffic in
the morning from about 7:15 to 8:00 is usually moving at a very slow crawl from our subdivision,
all the way into town. Again in the afternoon, from about 3:00 on it is worse heading out of town
toward Honokaa. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO INFRASTRUCTURE OR PLAN TO DEAL WITH
THE GROWTH OF OUR COMMUNITY WHERE TRAFFIC IS CONCERNED.
Also, the proposed rezoning and subdivision of the Inaba property shows that access to the
subdivision will be off of Kipahele Street. If the subdivision is approved by the Council as
submitted now, there will be eight more lots, and figuring 2 to 3 cars per lot, 16 to 24 more
cars/trucks will be using our road. Not to mention tractors and trucks associated with building and
grading the lots, if the subdivision is allowed.
Change is inevitable, and should be welcomed, however, change without planning and
preparation and foresight usually becomes a nightmare.
I understand that a video conference has been set up for November Sth. I will not be able to be
there, but plan to speak with as many neighbors as I can, and urge them to speak now, before it's
too late.
