Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 467, reports as follows:
Communication No. 467, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, dated
September 30, 2005, authorizes the acceptance of donations from the Friends of the Zoo and
Sanford's Service Center, Inc.
The Friends of the Zoo has graciously donated two Nigerian Dwarf Goats and one Pot Belly Pig
to the Department of Parks and Recreation to be used as petting zoo animals for the Children's
Petting Zoo at the Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo. The value of these donations are estimated at $250.
Sanford's Service Center, Inc. has graciously donated 32 cubic yards of cinder to the Department
of Parks and Recreation to be used for the beautification of Kahakai Park in Hawaiian Beaches.
The value of this donations is estimated at $261.68.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
Also, pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 3Q Section 2-162(c), Hawaii County Code, any donation or
gift which does not fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance shall
be submitted to the Council by letter for its approval.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to the Friends of the Zoo, P.O. Box 738, Kea`aq
Hawaii 96749; and Sanford's Service Center, Inc., Mr. Sanford Iwata, P O. Box 1321, Pahoa,
Hawaii 96778, acknowledging these generous donations.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the acceptance of the two Nigerian Dwarf Goats and
one Pot Belly Pig from the Friends of the Zoo, and 32 cubic yards of cinder from Sanford's
Service Center, ]nc,
