Dear Councilman Jacobson;
Attached a a letter and petition signed by 74 citizens of Waikdoa Vllage requesting a roundabout at
the entrance to the village from Waikolea Road. The letter 354 tlated April 22, 200^5 is addressed to
Kohala District Councilman Hoffmann. Hopefully this will support passage or the Rounaabcut
Resolution.
I am also the Chair of the South Kohala Traffic Safety Committee and ,,,pry con~.meo about nxrucing
crashes and near misses on our marls- Roundabouts are proven trafF~;; ~lming devia~s and Maintain
free flow of traffic. The 74 signatures attest to the desire to have a roundabout at the v~,~aikoloa
RoadlPaniolo Avenue intersection and other intersections on Paniolo Avenue.

The Asphalt patchirtg m Panido Avenue is ne~ry to save Vre high east of an asptaaft over*ay. Pat

seated vAren one lane at a time is restricted for laying new asphalt besides ttue incre~°r1 oast !_ua
Kula Street and Melia Street also need patchimg.
The new rxosswalk at IovNer Pui Nui Street brixls altertUOn to the poor cxxdition of other rxosswaics irr
the viNage. Vehicles drive through the poorly marked cross walks when pedestrians are in the
intersection. Several near misses have been winessed and ercperienoed by owners and residents at
Waikoloa Hilts crossing Paniob Avenue and Waicoloa Road.
Please Crave the Council allocate fixds th perform these nraintenanc+e tasks to prewrs:rrt future mostly
asphalt replacement. Crosswaic resUiping should be a priority m protect the safety of p~lestriaras.

1. Paniolo Avenue needs Asphalt patching and filling of Zr~~ciss ~ avoid a
complete costly overlay. Heavy equipment and increased teaffic are caetsini;
accelerated wear. The abnottnal rah+y Spring resulted in water Seeping into
cracks in ltee surface causing spallirg of the asphalt The e~rstsriine in mani+
areas has 2~3" areas o$ missing asphalt with grass growing in tise~m.
