Dear Council Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations,
The Resolution as written is extremely car-centric and fails to consider the safety
of pedestrians and bicyclists who would also be using the roundabout. Did you
know that the visually impaired would have an extremely difficult time crossing at
the roundabout crosswalk? Did you know that bicyclists have a good chance of
getting side-swiped while trying to travel with other vehicles in the roundabout?
Did you know that a roundabout if not designed properly can become extremely
hazardous when placed in intersection of a 4-lane highway?
Please tell the author of this resolution to go back and do more research in terms
of pedestrian and bicycle safety.
I know that when the roundabouts for Alii Highway were designed, it was
recommended that the bicycles use the pedestrian pathway instead of the travel
way because the pathway was safer.
Please do not pass this resolution as currently worded as it falls short of other
important safety issues.
