QUARTERLY REPORT
PROJECT "['ITLE:HCPD TRAFFIC INVESTIGA~fION PROGRAM/PTOS-Ol (U]-H-02)
Prioriri~ Area: t Area: Alcohol Countermeasures
The goal of this project is to improve speed and alcohol related fatal traffic crash
im~estigations, prosecution efforts and conviction rates by obtaining training and
equipment.
1. Purchase two Leica'I~otal Stations to improve traffic crash scene reconstruction.
Four (4) "Traffic Enforcement Officers to attend the following courses:
• Inspection and investigation of Commercial Motor Vehicle Crashes.
• Interviewing Techniques for Traffic 'rash Investigations.
• Photography for'fraftic Crash Investigations
GRANT PERIOD RESULTS:
(FINAL REPORT)
• Four 'fraftic Enforcement Officers attended the Crash Reconstruction: Meshing
Science with Effective Advocacy, April 6-8, 2005, on the Big Island.
• Three Traffic Enforcement Officers attended the Level One Commercial Vehicle
Inspection Class held on Oahu and sponsored by the Department of
Transportation.
• 1'wo Leica Total Stations have been purchased and training is being coordinated.
The training objectives of this grant were rtet in as much as officers attending training
courses for Crash Reconstruction and Commercial Motor Vehicles. Other courses agreed
upon were not offered during this period either due to instructor unavailability or other
scheduling issues. Equipment has been purchased.
