This is an informational sheet for the up & coming public hearings on resolution 171.05.
Public Hearings on Recreational boat harbor operations
Resolution 171-05 requests this Council conduct public hearings and facilitate discussions
among Big Islanders. The purpose is to determine if this County should assume management of
recreational boat harbor operations from the State Department of Land and Natural Resources
(DLNR), Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR).
The Hawaii County Council is comprised of nine members, each elected from one of Hawaii
County's nine geographic districts and serving two-year terms. The Council is vested with the
legislative powers of the County. (ts' primary function is the enactment of legislation and
formulation of public policy through approval of ordinances, adoption of annual budgets, setting
of tax rates and policies, and oversight of administrative agencies.
SCHEDULE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS:
Pahoa: November 21, 2005-Pahoa Neighborhood Facility at 6PM
Hilo: November 22, 2005-Council Room, 25 Aupuni Street, Hilo at 6PM
Na'alehu: November 30, 2005-Na'alehu Community Center at 6PM
Kcauhou-Kona: December 6, 2005-Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa at 6PM
Waimea: December 7, 2005-Waimea Middle School Cafeteria at 7PM
Recreational boat harbor operations include:
South Kohala:
• Kawaihae (small boat harbor) north basin. Recreational boats in the deep draft harbor will
relocate to the south basin.
